THE ROAR
(A roar from the den of the North Lakes Lions Club with Chris Doyle)
Hi again resident’s, and a hearty pinch and a punch for the first week of the month.
As you’d expect, working up to Christmas we’re all systems go in anticipation of the rotund one stopping and making his deliveries to one and all here at North Lakes.
As I’ve said in previous weeks, this is a particularly lovely time of year here, and all of us in the den encourage you to get out and about and really appreciate the wonderful surroundings in which we live here at North Lakes..
As I’m sure you’re aware, the farmer’s market’s are now in full swing fortnightly in the park down by Lake Eden, and we must thank all the local’s for their kind words of encouragement etc, as they stop and have a yarn with us at the Lions Bar-B-Q tent while we make them an Egg & Bacon Burger or two. I’ve been out there a few times lately doing the mouth on legs thing drumming up business, and we never seem to miss putting a smile or two on the faces of the folk’s as they come by. It’s truly a great thing to do, have a stroll around all the stall’s on a Sunday morning, and the produce, and for that matter, all the product’s on show are of an extremely high quality.
Last week we had a double header with a great sausage sizzle to celebrate the opening of our new Doctors Surgery in North Lakes, which was well attended and after being given a personal tour of the facility, I’m sure it will be patronised by one and all and do very well.
Sunday saw us back on the Barby and up to the new Freshwater Estate on the other side of North Lakes, where prospective home buyers took advantage of the new house and land package’s that were on display. Again lots of store holder’s were in attendance and one very lucky lady went home with a brand new plasma TV.
Also last week at our Lions Club meeting we were given a treat, a demonstration from two of the boy’s from the North Lakes College Sam & Jacob, who are members of the Robotics’ team. We have a photo of President Des Fuller presenting the boy’s a cheque for a thousand dollars to help cover the costs for a trip to Perth W A, to compete in the Robo-Cup Competition, where the school came 3rd at a very intense national level.
As you would expect the ticket’s to our Christmas Dinner/Dance are off to a great start with people getting the message to purchase their ticket’s quickly to avoid disappointment.
In case you’ve missed what’s going on I’ll inform you one and all yet again as to what’s happening to celebrate Christmas from the Lions Club this year.
As part of giving back to the community, the Lions Club is staging our Christmas Party/ Dinner on the 13th of December 2008 at the North Lakes Community Centre Lakefield Drive. This won’t be a fundraiser, rather our opportunity to say Thank You and Merry Christmas to all our resident’s and supporter’s. We are offering a great night out, including pre-dinner nibbles 6.30pm-7.30pm, a traditional Baked Christmas Dinner and a Hot Christmas Pudding Dessert plus fabulous entertainment with “The SONiiQ DUO” featuring World Class Nashville Guitarist Louie Shelton and accomplished Gold Coast vocalist Atalie, who will provide dinner and dance music from 8.00pm- 11.30pm. They will cater for the over 40’s and will deliver fantastic dance music.
We are charging only $40.00 per head as a Christmas gift to you, which will just cover our costs. We will be running a bar on the night offering a choice of red & white wine and champagne plus spirit’s & beer etc, at reasonable bar prices. As at our Christmas in July Dinner/Dance we are encouraging you all to book tables of 8 as well as singles and couples. There are only 180 ticket’s on sale, so please, put this night aside now and send your cheque’s made payable to The North Lakes Lions Club, PO Box 819 North Lakes 4509, and we will make sure your ticket’s are sent to you. Also as I’ve said previously, the standard has been set and it will be a great night of celebration with a party atmosphere for all to enjoy, BUT, be quick!!!!!!.
As usual we’re still keen for new member’s, so if you’re new to North Lakes and want to
get to know people, establish new friendships and at the same time lend a helping hand
to the community, do what two more members have done this month and give our Membership Chairman, Graham Hill, a call during business Hours on 0409- 765155, or after hours on 34913025.
Finally, our Lions Christmas Cakes are in full swing, so please make sure you get yours and one for a friend. They are highly visible at all our Club outings, however should you need one and are unable to obtain one, please give John or Chris Collard a call on 32045583, and they’ll arrange to have one delivered for you.
Well that’s it for this issue.
Until next time,
Chris.
