A MAN has been charged over the fire that destroyed the ABC Learning Centre and spread to a neighbouring building, north of Brisbane, last month.

The 21-year-old North Lakes man appeared in the Pine Rivers Magistrates Court on Monday charged with one count each of arson and enter premises with intent. 

The blaze started in the Baby World part of the North Lakes centre and spread through a walkway to another building on Discovery Dr. 

About 20 firefighters were able to save part of the larger building.

It is understood the damage bill cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. 

Families at the time were forced to find alternative childcare arrangements. 

The man will re-appear in the Pine Rivers Magistrates Court on April 20, 2009.
