North Lakes Farmer's Market
8/7/2008
North Lakes came alive on Sunday with the colour, smell and creative activities of the first ever Farmers markets held at Lake Eden.
Approximately 35 growers and their families made a 4am start to bring fresh, local produce to this community thus creating a fantastic opportunity to taste freshly grown product. The crowd of about 4000 locals and visitors were entertained by the farmers who were keen for everyone to try their produce.
The weather held fine after teasing with light rain the previous evening and during the early morning.
Regular comments from the locals include “it is great to have you here; it’s been a long time since we have had such fantastic fresh and great tasting foods.”
The growers enjoyed the interaction and opportunity to talk with the public about some of the more commonly known local products like Kandanga strawberries and slow grown bananas others about more unusual products they grow and create like exotic mushrooms, tasty Natures Nibbles seeds and Worts organic soft drinks. Pancakes, Seedcakes and German sausages gave off aromatic smells to delight the senses.
Supporting our farmers to remain on the land has become a community event allowing locals and visitors to interact and sample a variety of foods while learning about local culture.

Join us at the next North Lakes Farmers Market held on the 1st Sunday of each month 7am-12noon
